Willing Spirits by Phyllis Schieber-A Review by Joyce Anthony
Yesterday, I told you about Willing Spirits by Phyllis Schieber. The synopsis only touches the bare surface of this book. Ms. Schieber has written a novel that represents every female that has ever lived. She opens a woman’s soul and presents it to her readers on a golden cloth woven with words as smooth as the finest satin.

As I followed Jane and Gwen throughout this book, I laughed and cried with them, often simultaneously. Every woman will find themself in at least one of these two–for Phyllis Schieber has stripped away the false labels of her characters and infused them with the very spirit that makes a woman-mother, wife, friend, daughter, all the “roles” are there, but what follows you long after you turn the last page is the feeling that at last the term “woman” has been defined accurately-strong yet vulnerable, sassy yet demure, confident yet full of doubt. It is all here and writen so the interweaving of traits create the piece of art that IS female.

For every woman who has ever loved and lost, for every mother, daughter, sister and friend-this is a must-read work. For every man who has ever loved a woman, had a mother or raised a daughter, you will find an understanding and appreciation of them beyond what you ever imagined.

While my Rainbow Scale of Excellence is limited to a perfect rainbow of seven colors, I found myself for the first time wanting to rate a book higher. Willing Spirits can easily be a double rainbow and I would like to take a minute to thank Phyllis for this wonderful contribution to the literary world.

That said, I would like to present Willing Spirits with the very first Rainbow Award for Writing Excellence
